We had a good ride into Portland, leaving at 6am to hopefully beat the traffic we had heard about. Also, being a Saturday, we thought there might be less trucks to contend with.
Well, there were trucks…log trucks, woodchip trucks, milk trucks and fuel trucks; but, they all moved over and gave us as much breathing room as possible on the fairly narrow road that wound around corners, up hill and down dale with a speed limit of 110km/hr and a mediocre shoulder. We were a bit surprised that the speed limit was so high for the type of road it was. Obviously South Australian drivers are better at driving than those from other states.
As we were nearing Nelson we crossed the border into 100km/hr country, Victoria.
